Frequently asked questions
What practices are put in place to protect participants?
Advisors cannot use the Pontera platform to engage in activities that could trigger custody, such as withdraw or transfer funds, change beneficiaries or contributions, or initiate distributions. They also cannot view client credentials, including logins and passwords.
What built-in safety protections exist?
Pontera is SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified. Auditable rebalancing records and purpose-built functionality give financial advisors peace of mind and ensure activity remains compliant with applicable regulations.

What were advisors doing pre-Pontera?
Before Pontera, participants had limited ability to get guidance on their 401(k) assets from their own trusted advisor, and fiduciary responsibilities were shared among the employer, plan administrator, and third party managers. This made it difficult for financial advisors to provide tailored advice. Advisors had three sub-optimal options: 1) do nothing and leave client needs unmet; 2) give recommendations based on limited data and with no control over implementation; and 3) log in with client credentials which creates unnecessary risk.
Do advisors receive participant login credentials?
No, advisors never receive or use participant login credentials. Activity is logged in a rebalancing record to protect recordkeepers and participants.
Does Pontera replace existing offerings like managed accounts or TDFs?
No. Pontera complements your current lineup. It’s designed to serve participants who already have a trusted advisor or want individualized, in-plan management, adding flexibility and personalization options without disrupting default plan solutions.
Are recordkeepers able to integrate directly with Pontera?
Yes. In an effort to continue building features to help the wider ecosystem, we can integrate with recordkeeper APIs to make certain features available.
